5. The system matches your profile: It cross-references the selfie with the photos already on your profile to confirm they show the same person.

Facial recognition doesn’t always work as well for some skin tones and ethnic groups. So we choose the provider carefully. We pick a provider that trains on diverse data and makes the fewest mistakes across all groups, so it rarely rejects a real user or matches two different people by accident.

We also weight provider selection toward vendors that train on diverse, representative data and publish their fairness results.
